Automotive Auction Site

Visit Site

Summary: An automotive auction site with search, filtering, and a simulated live bidding flow.

Role: Solo developer (personal project)

Stack: Next.js, TypeScript, CSS Modules

GitHub: https://github.com/ajaynes/the-block

Car auction listings need to be easy to narrow down fast, so I built search, sort, and filter options that work together to help buyers find the right vehicle.

The fun part is the auction flow. I built it with simulated bids coming in so it behaves like a live auction, which meant handling constantly changing state and keeping the UI clear while prices update.

NASA Assets Explorer

Visit Site

Summary: A search and browse tool for NASA's public image and video library.

Role: Solo developer (personal project)

Stack: Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind, NASA Images and Video API

GitHub: https://github.com/ajaynes/nasa-asset-viewer

NASA has an enormous media library, and the raw API isn't exactly friendly to browse. I built this from scratch to make it easy to explore, with search and filtering on the front end.

Each result opens a details page with the asset displayed in a lightbox modal, so you can view images and video up close without losing your place.

Signature Bikes

Visit Site

Summary: A headless BigCommerce build on Catalyst and Makeswift, where I led development from kickoff to launch.

Role: Lead developer, technical point of contact

Stack: BigCommerce Catalyst, Next.js, React, TypeScript, Makeswift

Signature Bikes is my most recent BigCommerce project and the one I led start to finish. Built on Catalyst, it gives the client a fast, modern headless storefront with visual editing through Makeswift. I led development of the reusable Makeswift components that power the site's pages and built out the product detail page.

I was the client's technical point of contact and acted as a technical consultant for both our internal team and theirs, helping translate business needs into what the platform could do and guiding decisions along the way.

Essential History Expeditions

Visit Site

Summary: A tour company site I built solo, with live trip data, custom forms, and private trips unlocked by a secret keyword.

Role: Sole developer

Stack: Next.js, Makeswift, Bookeo API, Mailchimp

I created the trip widget and all of the trip pages, integrated custom email contact forms, and built a custom video uploader. For private groups, I set up trips that stay hidden unless a specific keyword is added to the URL's query string, so the client can share exclusive itineraries without a separate site or login.

I also handled launch, including the DNS cutover, accessibility and SEO audits, and client UAT.

Nature's Garden

Visit Site

Summary: A large craft supply storefront where I led development across the core shopping experience.

Role: Lead developer

Stack: BigCommerce, Stencil

Nature's Garden sells a huge range of candle and soap making supplies, so the category and product pages had to do a lot of heavy lifting. I built the category pages and the product detail page, and did much of the homepage work.

As lead, I directed junior developers and worked with the project managers on timelines, helping keep estimates realistic and the build moving.
